Alfa Group

Alfa Group, founded in 1989, is one of the largest financial-industrial consortiums in Russia. The interests of the group extend to such business sectors as oil and gas production, commercial and investment banking, asset management, insurance, retail trade, telecommunications and media, and a range of businesses. The group's primary focus is on high-yielding, long-term investments in Russia and countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The leading company in the consortium is Alfa-Bank, one of the largest private banks in Russia. The bank provides the full range of services for corporate and individual clients. Alfa-Bank not only possesses the second largest in branch network in Russia but also owns subsidiary banks in Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, Cyprus, the United States, and Great Britain. Alfa-Bank Ukraine is one of the ten largest and most dynamically growing commercial banks in that country. Alfa Group's subsidiary asset management company Alfa Capital serves pension funds, insurance companies, corporate—Russian and international—and private investors. Asset management company Alfa Capital Partners offers funds for direct investment and provides consulting services to equity and real estate investment funds. AlfaStrakhovanie, another member-company of the Alfa Group, is one of the largest insurance companies in Russia; it offers a universal portfolio of insurance services.

Alfa Group together with Access Industries and Renova own 50 percent of TNK-BP, one of Russia's largest vertically integrated oil companies.

Alfa Group holds significant shares in telecommunications companies offering mobile and fixed-line communications and broadband technologies; its companies in this sector include VimpelCom, MegaFon, and Kyivstar GSM—the latter, the leading telecommunications company in Ukraine. The consortium is making investments in Turkcell, the leading GSM telecommunications operator in Turkey. Other companies in the Alfa Group include X5 Retail Group N.V., which is owner of Pyaterochka; supermarket networks Perekrestok and Karusel; CTC Media, Inc.; A1, the leading company in direct investment in Russia and CIS countries; and ROSVODOKANAL Group, the leading company in the CIS engaged in water supply and water disposal.
